A two-day itinerary to spend your National Day Holiday to the fullest

It’s Singapore’s independence day again this August 9th! Besides being grateful for the extra day of public holiday and perhaps catching up on sleep, it’s also a great time to give yourself some credits for enduring through a really shaky first half of the year. Be it some self pamper session or exploring Singapore, here is a two-days ‘getaway feel’ we’ve put together for you to enjoy your long weekend to the fullest. Travelling may not be currently feasible, but we can always be tourists in our country. Call us your new travel guide or whatever, you’re welcome.

10am - 12pm: Get some fresh air
Prior to the opening of phase 2, we’ve all been staying in a lot, so why not start your long weekend by catching some fresh air and immerse yourself in some good ol’ natural vitamin C? Enjoy a good walk, hike or even cycle (if you’re up for it) at one of the many parks across our island. Here’s a good list we found to get you started. Just don’t forget your sunscreen!

12pm - 2pm: Brunch
After burning some calories, a good brunch makes our day. Depending where you’ve decided to hike or take a walk at, This is a whole list of recommended brunch places you should totally check out. If you’re not into fancy brunch places, go simple with a hearty local lunch at a nearby hawker centre.

2pm - 3pm: Take a rest

3.30pm - 6pm: Visit Museums
Spend your National Day late afternoon by visiting local museums and heritage centers to learn more about Singapore. Whether you’re out and about or staying home, these places have myriad activities in store for you. Try your hand at The Hunt@National Museum of Singapore, a digital scavenger hunt, or explore Asian Civilisations Museum’s (ACM) new permanent gallery, Fashion & Textiles, Jewellery and Ceramics, in the comfort of your home. Plus, scan QR codes around the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) to enjoy curator-led guided tours at your own pace.

For more information about the opening hours of these museums, please visit their websites.

6.30pm - 10pm: Dinner & watch the National Day Parade
Best way to spend an evening - How about a good view, good dinner with good company and watch the fireworks from a rooftop bar? Here’s a list of rooftop bars with delectable bites for you to choose from - from a friends get-together to a cozy date, you’ve got choices. According to Honeycombers, “It’s going to be an intimate one this year as the number of performers has scaled down to include less than 100 Singaporeans and local celebrities. Expect an inspirational show about resilience and hope, with a tribute to frontline workers and the community. The show will end with a bang-on fireworks display across 10 locations.”

11am - 3pm: Visit Gardens by the Bay
Are you really a true blue Singaporean if you’ve never visited the most visited attraction in Singapore? Gardens by the Bay is a great place for a date, or a family day out.
