It’s September, and that means it’s the transition into the rainy season in Singapore. Besides indulging in mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival (read till the end for a pleasant surprise), it’s time to change up some of your beauty rituals as we enter the rainier months of the year. Before you set your monsoon beauty routine in place, here’s 5 myths we would like to bust so you make smarter decisions and don’t end up wondering why your skin isn’t looking as ‘glowy’ as before.
#1 “There’s no need to put on sunscreen”
Whether you're a rigorous follower of the 10-step K-beauty routine or prefer to just stick to the basics, when it comes to skincare, sunscreen is a non-negotiable step, regardless of the routine you follow! If there is sunlight, there are sun rays. Sun rays consist of UV rays and infrared rays which can cause a host of skin care problems like premature aging and photo damage. Even if you do not see sun rays on rainy days, they exist and they affect your skin.
Verdict: WEAR YOUR SUNSCREENS
#2 “You can’t wear makeup on rainy days”
There's no reason to skip makeup during the season. However, it's important to wear the right kind of makeup. As humidity is generally higher this period, it can bring out oiliness, pimples and dry patches so it is important to use lightweight products that don't aggravate it. Opting for non-comedogenic products is a good option to prevent pores from clogging, and just be sure to cleanse your face thoroughly, using your trusted cleanser.
Verdict: WEAR YOUR MAKEUP TO FEEL GOOD
#3 “Skip moisturiser since it’s already humid enough”
This common myth probably originated because most skin types become oily during the rainy season. Don't mistake oiliness for hydration - there is a difference between dry and dehydrated skin. Dry skin lacks oil, while dehydrated skin lacks moisture. Your skin needs moisturiser even more during the monsoon and excess sebum is its way of compensating. Verdict: KEEP ON MOISTURISING
If you have extra dehydrated or dry skin, a hydrating facial every month goes a long way. Our Aqua Vital Facial is the perfect getaway to a gentle, yet intensive moisture treatment for your face. It ensures a 24-hour moisture-lock in, so expect to walk out with much hydrated, softer and plumper complexion.
#4 “Exfoliating once a week is enough to refresh my skin”
Post-summer skin may need a peel, a treatment that utilises a combination of exfoliating acids to keep it looking fresh and radiant. This isn’t everyday exfoliation and that is why a monthly facial is the best way forward to exfoliate, nourish and reset your skin. While a weekly exfoliation will already leave your skin feeling fresher and softer than before, imagine what a proper facial session can do for your skin.
#5 “I should avoid greasy food so my skin would look clearer”
Well, this isn’t entirely false. But we’d like you to know that greasy food is not the only cause of tired-looking skin. Did you know that consuming too much food that is high in sugar may lead to inflammation in the body, which also affects your skin? Excess sugar in the body can aggravate skin conditions such as acne and eczema. High consumption of sugar also causes the molecules to bond with collagen, resulting in brittle and less elastic skin which causes a combination of crow's feet and aging of skin.
Our Clinical Detox Facial is designed to specially stimulate the cell’s detoxification system, to allow the skin to breathe freely from the excess glucose present in your cells. Post facial, your skin will look brighter, more refreshed and feel fatigue-free.
While the cooler months might feel like another tedious mountain to climb, at least there are reasons for you to still invest in yourself and your skin!
